Default The fuck is up with the me.. er, males of Sweden?

When democracy becomes gyno-crazy:

Birthday party snub sparks debate

An eight-year-old boy has sparked an unlikely outcry in Sweden after failing to invite two of his classmates to his birthday party.

The boy's school says he has violated the children's rights and has complained to the Swedish Parliament.

Sweden mulls ban on sexist ads
In the report, special government rapporteur Eva-Maria Svensson suggested the creation of a law "banning advertising containing sexist content."

Sexist advertising is defined in the report as any message distributed "with a commercial aim" that can be "construed as offensive to women or men."

"Sexist advertising affects the shaping of people's identities and is counter-productive to society's goal of achieving gender equality," said the report, which calls for a new law to go into effect on January 1st, 2009.

Swedish sport 'ignoring gender equality laws'
The ombudsman examined the Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet) as well as 17 specialized athletic associations and found a general lack of interest and understanding of efforts to ensure gender balance in Swedish sport.

Most of the associations investigated lacked any plan whatsoever to address issues of equality, writes Equal Opportunities Ombudsman Ann-Marie Bergström in the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper.

“The investigation shows that the majority of employers haven’t pursued their gender equality work in an active and goal oriented way as required by law. One has to ask themselves whether certain employers have any active or planned gender equity work at all,” she writes.

The lack of progress is especially glaring, according to Bergström, as the Sports Confederation decided back in 1999 to actively include a gender perspective in its daily activities.

Seriously... what the fuck?

Oh, wait:

I follow most of the major Swedish newspapers and I've honestly never heard of these cases. I guess outcries about gender inequality have become so commonplace that it isn't even news worthy anymore. One can hope.

One thing you have to understand is that the Swedish public sector have many agencies and experts that are payed to bitch about various problems. When there's an outcry from one of these groups, or from a private organization, the first thing the government does is ignore it. If that doesn't work and the outcry catches on in the media, the second thing they do is admit that there might be a problem, and then appoint someone to investigate it for like six months to a year. That way, when they get questions about it they can tell the media that they've initiated an investigation. Then, when the rapport finally comes, they have another chance of ignoring it, but if that fails, they might have to actually do something. Usually that involves writing up some kind of draft for a policy change. But before parliament can vote on it, they have to send the draft out to various public and private agencies to get their point of view on it. If enough of these experts consider it bad policy, they might have to revise it, and then send it out for another round, and so on.

There's in reality very little, if any, actual law concerning gender equality.

If that article does reflect truth, I'd say it's because Swedish society has stopped rewarding them for being men.

I visited one of my employer's suppliers in Sweden a few years ago because there was a quality issue with their stuff. We just wanted to go over there, do our due diligence, write a report to some corrective action, and close the issue. The Swedes on the other hand were terrified that we were going to drop them as a supplier, which we had no intention of doing. These guys were almost in tears. Couldn't believe it.

The men, in general, seemed to bend over backwards to repress any kind of aggressive behaviour.

I have a lot of respect for Swedish industriousness. It's a country of only 10 million people, but they have two major car companies and design and build their own fighters. I don't know if that because, or in spite of, their hyper-equality culture.

There are almost no big companies started after the 1970s.

That's just it, though, men aren't supposed to need a biscuit to perform their act like a man trick.

Perhaps it's more accurate to say then that society punishes them for acting like men.

Uffe, tell me more about why you feel the need to repress manly behavior, and whether that relates to why you haven't screamed "I am the Lord" at more girls while you were fucking them. Extra credit if your answer is in the form of a sonnet.

huh? I just tried to give some insight into the Swedish political system and why people should take these articles with a grain of salt and don't read too much into them. I sincerely doubt that we have more of a problem than the rest of the Western world.

Well yeah, but its more fun to ignore that post and go on and on about how superior we are to Swedish men. Defend your countrymen!

edit: needs more sonnet

these snippets seem to follow the general theme of other articles I've read on sweden. I'm picturing it to be the IW/pussy capital of the world.
