I did this before but built it using rotary joysticks as seen on Ikari Warriors. You're using Happ brand controls, right?

Happ perfect 360 stick, with seimitsu buttons. I like the lower profile of the japanese buttons better. I know Happ makes convex buttons, but the depth-to-actuation is still a bit more than I'd like.

because I used 3/4" MDF for the top/control panel, I had to dremel the fuck out of the bottom so that the buttons can be mounted, since the mounting depth should be no more than 1/2", where Happs can be mounted on boards up to 1.25" deep, i think (heh, Asian components cant go as deep as American components, go figure), and the box wasn't deep enough to mount happ controls, anyway.

I built 3 more boxes today and used 1/2" MDF for the top this time around.

I dont know enough about woodworking to know WHY it's a pain, but i can tell you there is SO much sawdust [which, i hear is also slightly toxic; i probably breathed so much of that shit before i started using a mask] and i hear that if it isnt painted or at least sealed it'll turn into mush within a few years.

i think the next few i make are going to be made out of poplar. or something equally cheap and sturdy.

i still have enough wood to make 2 or 3 more of these things, so i'll get rid of all of that first.
