Normally at work we've got a local place that does an awesome South Indian vegetarian curry, a new combo platter every day with rice, pancakes, some form of starter, two types of curry, a bit of salad and sour cream if you're a pussy who can't handle his curry. That shit is the bomb, yo.

Now I have to shop at Iceland, and eat dry wholemeal sandwiches with chicken slices.

Please share your tragic stories about the global economic slowdown.

I've cut my weekday drinking back to Mon and Thursdays only. :(

That's so fucked up man. That's just plain fucked up.

I love how the credit crunch isn't affecting these guys one jot:

What a brilliant bunch of arseholes. That story has everything; a guy who was involved with two landspeed records, some crazy Lord who races Aston Martins, a boy genius rocket engineer from Manchester called Rocket Dan, and a 1,050mph rocket car.

I love that shit.

It really is, costs around £4.95 for a takeaway. The portion isn't huge but it's enough to sate you until you get home.

my only problem with indian food is ... food coma. it takes great willpower to not eat myself into the next day.

I live off ramen noodles. That's mostly because I'm a student though.

There's been an across-the-board cut for all NYC agencies, so all our social services are going to shit. Now a virile, healthy young man like me doesn't need much social services but if I become a cripple, I'm pretty much fucked.

On the other hand, this downturn has actually been great for journalism.

Because this is vegetarian stuff it's not really heavy on the stomach, so there's not too much trouble.

Here's another tragedy of the slowdown: Instead of hitting the hilariously overpriced bars, I'm considering staying in tonight and inviting some people round to get shitfaced and watch movies. This means that because of the credit crunch I will end up on IWForums at some point on a Friday night, and all hope will be lost.

You mean your bars don't feature a "recession special?"

We're talking London here where a bottle of Bud can cost between £3.15 to £3.80, and double whiskey on the rocks is at least £8.

I used to be able to drive around "spiritedly" on weeknights/weekends... now I'm reduced to staying home and not wasting my fuel because gas per month is costing me right around $450!!!!!

Damn dude. Even in NYC, you can find cheap bars. This place near my school, Rudy's, has $7 pitchers and a free hot dog with every drink.

I hear ya. I have a moderately long commute. I like spirited driving, but the turbocharger likes to drink gasoline as soon as you start pushing it. So I've started taking it easy (not that gasoline is a huge percentage of my income).

Wow. At my current level of fuel consumption I barely hit that cost in a year.

Actually, the economic slowdown is making gasoline cheaper.

It's depressing to know I often spend more on petrol than food each month.

at least recently.. there might be some argument about when the start of the economic slowdown really started, and the overlap of rising gas... but really i don't think either of us could be bothered. i see your point and raise you a quibble.

I had some awesome boar flesh sausages and mashed potato from Waitrose, it wasn't even that expensive. It's worth getting together some gourmet shit once a month, it makes the whole week happier.

I fucking love their aberdeen angus sausages. I just seriously cant afford to spend that much on a sausage though. One of the downsides of studentism.
